Yesterday, news got out that an Armenian serviceman was killed on the Armenia-Azeri border. The spokesperson for Armenia’s Ministry of Defence, Artsrun Hovhannisian, commented on the incident through his Facebook account, stating:
“With sorrow, I must inform you that yesterday evening, the body of private Hamik Eghiayi Vardanian, born in [the year] 2000 was found at a military unit of the RA’s AF [Republic of Armenia’s Armed Forces]. The circumstances are being investigated. Our condolences to the family, relatives and friends of our serviceman. “
Currently, no further details are being provided by official sources. According to news sources, the fallen serviceman was an only-child from Yerevan and had started his compulsory military service in January of this year.
The location of the incident remains unclear. However, this incident comes just days after Azeri officials announced a border shootout incident on the northern-most military outposts near Georgia’s border.
