On 31 December, the Azeri Defence minister, Zakir Hasanov, visited troops at military positions on the line-of-contact (LoC) near the village of Talish, on segments of territory that passed under Azeri military control during the 2016 April war.

The visit’s aim was to follow up on the condition of the troops deployed at the military positions, including the operational as well as living aspects. Gen Hasanov was also pictured observing Armenian positions on the other side of the LoC. Subsequently, Hasanov visited a military hospital and met with personnel.
Official photos provided by the ministry show what appear to be either recently renovated or constructed installations at the visited positions. Photos show walls fortified with barbed wire atop HESCO barriers, something the Azeri military has consistently used in recent years to fortify other military positions.
