Serviceman killed in border skirmish

Azeri serviceman, İbrahim Mənəfov was killed on 20 January 2018 in a border skirmish in an undisclosed area on the line of contact between Azerbaijan and Nagorno Karabakh. 23-year-old Mənəfov had graduated from the National Aviation Academy and had started military service in July of 2017.  Armenian military authorities have not commented on the incident, whilst, in a rare move, the Azeri Defence Ministry permitted local media outlets to publish basic information on the incident. Currently no detailed information is available on the incident.  Mənəfov was laid to rest in his family’s village of Bankə, in the region of Neftçala in eastern Azerbaijan.

The death of Mənəfov brings Azeri combat deaths since the start of the year to 3. Tension has been high on the line of contact, as both sides have experienced border skirmishes since the beginning of the year.
