The Kremlin and Armenia to create joint military force

On the 28 June,  Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted a bill to the nations legislative body, the Duma, for its ratification. The bill not surprisingly contained plans for the creation of a joint Russian-Armenian military unit and its subsequent development into further units at future dates.  This is just one more measure the Kremlin has taken to guarantee its dominance over the small Caucasian republic of Armenia. A history of ups and downs between the two seems to be eventually concluding in an absorption of Russia of its smaller neighbour.

The bill is derived from a bilateral agreement signed between the two governments back in November of 2016.  With Russia already controlling Armenia’s border with Turkey, Armenia’s airspace and strategic energy infrastructure, the Kremlin’s grip on the country tightens.
