Turkish-Azeri sniper training drills conclude in southern Nakhichevan

Special sniper units from the Armed Forces of Turkey and Azerbaijan concluded training drills near the city of Julfa in southern Nakhichevan. The closing ceremony saw the playing of both countries’ national anthems and an oath to mutual friendship. This is the first military exercise of its kind this year in Nakhichevan.  High-level military officials from both sides congratulated the troops and stated the need for further cooperation.

Specialists from both countries had started the training session within the framework of previous  bilateral military agreements, which have seen numerous joint military exercises rise over the years in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan. The training included day and night courses, with moving targets and team drills aimed at strengthening cooperation.

It is worth mentioning that last year in 2018, of the seven major military drills that were conducted in Azerbaijan, two took place in Nakhichevan. Authorities in Baku have placed much importance in this region, as a potential springboard for military action against Armenian proper should major military operations resume. This strategy by Baku puts Armenia in a situation similar to that of Prussia, who was faced with the possibility of war on two fronts (east and west).
