Azeri border guards detain individuals on Iran border near line-of-contact

On 18 January, Azeri State Border Serivce (SBS) reported the detention of three individuals near the Azeri-Iranian border village of Emirzeyidli, 28 km from the line-of-contact between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan. The incident occured when a suspicious individual exited a vehicle that had approached the border area. SBS guards urged the individual to stop and detained him as he tried to escape.  Additionally, two other individuals in the vehicle, a male and female were detained.

A detachment of the Horadiz SBS unit at the scene recovered a parcel with 2 kilograms of marihuana and 865 grams of opium from the individuals. This area has seen several other incidents in recent years, the most significant one being near the same village on 19 December 2015, when seven Bangladeshi citizens were detained trying to ilegally cross the border into Azerbaijan.
